VC Spark in collaboration with Baylor University present the Bluebonnet Reading Program!

The program involves Teachers from Central Texas campuses choosing to read and explore one title from the Texas Bluebonnet Book Nominees with their class. The class prepares a presentation to introduce their book to other classes participating in the project through a videoconference. Skits, songs, monologues, living timelines, etc. have been used in the past to share the books. As teachers and their students begin to read and discuss their text, the teacher will be invited to join a Moodle (an electronic discussion board that looks like a diary/journal entry) along with two students in the College of Education at Baylor University The Moodle is completely secure and open only to those who are invited. After accepting the Moodle invitation, the teacher simply logs on each morning and allows students to enter their reader responses, reflections, and questions. Baylor students will read the student entries and ask questions, respond to students’ questions or comments, and prompt students to new connections.
This project will take place in the Fall 2010. Dates will be determined shortly, check back for details.
The goals of the project are:
- To bring authentic technology applications into the classroom
- To explore and enjoy quality literature.
- To integrate the visual and performing arts into literature response
- To provide additional practice writing responses to literature
- To expand the learning community
- To provide authentic field-experience in reading, writing and technology to the Baylor pre-service teachers
- To provide opportunities for integrated learning of TEKS requirements in real-life learning contexts.
